Texas Land Commissioner Buckingham Breaks Ground on Major Manufacturing Development, Putting Texas State Lands to Work

AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., joined Hillwood and local leaders to break ground on Ranger 35, a major industrial development in Waxahachie that will put Texas land to work by creating jobs, attracting investment opportunities, and expanding the state’s manufacturing capacity.

The Ranger 35 project is expected to create as many as 10,000 permanent on-site jobs. During development and stabilization, Ranger 35 could generate up to $1.5 billion in regional economic activity.

“Texas has the land, the resources, the energy and the workforce to build the future right here at home. Today’s groundbreaking is about turning those Texas advantages into action. By working with developers like Hillwood, we are putting land to work, bringing investment to our communities and creating good-paying jobs for Texans," said Commissioner Buckingham. “Texas has been building America for generations, and we’re not slowing down. This is exactly what The Texas Engine is all about—building more, manufacturing more, and creating more opportunity right here in Texas.”

The groundbreaking marks another step forward for Commissioner Buckingham’s The Texas Engine: Fueled, Fed, and Fortified initiative, which is leveraging Texas land, resources and ingenuity to strengthen the industries essential to Texas and America’s future.

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) manages more than 13 million acres of state land and minerals and puts those assets to work generating revenue for the Permanent School Fund, which supports Texas public education. Under Commissioner Buckingham’s leadership, the GLO is identifying additional opportunities to use state lands to attract industrial and manufacturing investment while creating long-term economic value for Texans.

Through The Texas Engine, the GLO is working with developers, manufacturers, economic development organizations, and other industry partners to identify sites and opportunities that can strengthen domestic manufacturing, create jobs, and drive economic growth across the Lone Star State.

Other GLO-related industrial developments are already demonstrating the economic potential of putting Texas land to work. At Goose Creek, development has generated nearly 600 temporary construction jobs, almost all of which are filled locally. Depending on the eventual user, the site could support as many as 700 full-time jobs, particularly if secured for light manufacturing, while generating significant annual wages and an estimated $150 million in annual regional economic output.

These developments can also generate millions of dollars for the Permanent School Fund, ensuring economic activity on state lands delivers benefits beyond the communities where projects are located and helps support public education across Texas.
